17: Key Mapping

Purpose:

The key mapping menu allows any switch or button on the radio to be assigned to control any function the radio has. This includes controlling a channel, a mix, a setting such as trim, timers, or the Multi-Position function.

How to access this menu:

The Key Mapping Menu is a menu within the second level of the Main Menu. To open in up, do the following

  • Starting from the Home Screen
  • Press enter-SHORT
  • Scroll till REV is lit up
  • Press enter-LONG
  • This is the Key Mapping menu

How to use this menu:

The Key Mapping menu is the most complex menu of the whole radio. This is because it offers a massive amount of flexibility for how the user interacts with the radio. However there is a very methodical layout to the menu which will be broken up over the next several articles. For the rest of the articles the switch or button will be referred to as the "key". This terminology is related to the keys on a keyboard, it is just another name for a button.

Upon entering the Key Mapping menu, the key that is to be assigned/mapped needs to be selected. Todo this, rotate the scroll wheel till the desired key is displayed in the 7 segment display. Below is an outline of what each symbol represents

Trim Type Keys (These are bi-directional switches/buttons)

  • 1: Steering Trim Buttons
  • 2: Throttle Trim Buttons
  • 3: Channel 3 Trim Switch
  • d: D/R (Dual Rate) Switch

Button Type Keys (These are uni-directional buttons)

  • C: Channel 3 Button
  • b: Back Button
  • E: End Button

It is important to note that all of the Trim Type (Bi-directional) keys can be turned into Button Type (Uni-directional) keys if the function for the Trim key is set to OFF. After setting the function to off (See article referring to Trim Type Key mapping), then you can select each direction of the Trim keys as individual Buttons. This is represented by the arrows highlighted above the 3 character display. The left arrow is highlighted for the left button for the trim key identified in the seven segment and when the right arrow is highlighted it is referring to the right button for the trim key identified by the seven segment. These only show up for selection after the desired trim key has been set to OFF.

After scrolling to the key that is to be assigned, press enter-SHORT. This will cause the radio to enter into the menu appropriate for the type of switch to be assigned. Please see the following articles for navigating the Trim Type key mapping and the Button Type key mapping menus.

Press enter-LONG or END to exit the menu and return to the main menu. Press BACK to exit the menu and return to the home screen.

So to summarize

  • Use SCROLL to select the key to be assigned
  • Press enter-SHORT to select the key (Trim type: 1, 2, 3, d) (Button Type: C, b, E)
  • The radio will take you to the appropriate menu for key type., please see following articles on how to navigate the menus.
  • Use enter-LONG, END, or BACK to exit the menu.

Screen Indicators:

While the Key Mapping Menu is open, the following should occur

  • REV in the top menu bar is flashing
  • The currently selected Key will be indicated in the seven segment display
  • If there is a arrow above the 3 character dot display, this indicates that the trim key indicated is in button mode, and either the left of the right button is selected dependent on the arrow.
  • The 3 character dot display will be indicating the function it is currently assigned to.

Other Noteworthy information:

The key mapping menu has a very fluid structure to it and certain settings will only appear if certain conditions are met. This is great because it doesn't allow an illegal setting be assigned to a certain key or function however it does make it difficult to document or remember the exact sequence. These articles try to highlight those differences/conditions but if we missed something or didn't clarify something well enough please let us know.
