Purpose:
The Dual Rate is another way of adjust max values of a channel. I haven't had a chance to confirm this, but the difference between dual rates and end points is when they are calculated. End points are at the beginning of the calculation process and all other settings are applied to the new channel range. However, Dual rates are applied at the end of the calculation process and the channel will just go into saturation at a set percentage. In other words it truncates additional channel movement after a set point.
So endpoints are used for permanent max channel values. Dual rates should be used for temporarily decreasing max values, mainly to decrease sensitivity to steering wheel / trigger movement. Using dual rates won't affect exponentials, mix percentages, channel step rates, etc. It just truncates channel movement at the set point. Another way of thinking about it, is that if one was to set the dual rate set point to 50, then twice the amount of movement would be needed out of the steering wheel or trigger to get the same amount of channel movement. Since there are mechanical stops on the wheel/trigger, the maximum amount of servo throw is 50%.
How to access this menu:
The Dual Rate Menu is a menu within the Main Menu. To open in up, do the following
- Starting from the Home Screen
- Press enter-SHORT
- Scroll till D/R is lit up
- Press enter-SHORT
- This is the Dual Rate menu
How to use this menu:
Within the Dual Rate menu there will be 2 secondary menu's, one for steering (Channel 1) and one for throttle (Channel 2). Each secondary menu (each channel) has parameters than can be changed. The steering channel (channel 1) has one parameter, this parameter adjusts both the left and right dual rate set point. The throttle channel (channel 2) has two parameters, forwards and backwards/brake dual rate set points can be set separately; use the steering wheel or trigger to switch between the left and right dual rate set points (rotate the wheel/trigger back and forth across neutral). Once the dual menu has been entered use the SCROLL wheel to switch channels. Press enter-SHORT to select the channel. Now use the SCROLL wheel to change the set point. Then press enter-SHORT to go back to the channel selection.
Press enter-LONG or END to exit the menu and return to the main menu. Press BACK to exit the menu and return to the home screen.
So to summarize
- Use SCROLL to switch the active channel
- Press enter-SHORT to select the active channel
- Use SCROLL to adjust the set point
- ~Use the steering wheel or trigger to select between left/right set points
- Press enter-SHORT to return to channel selection
- Use enter-LONG, END, or BACK to exit the menu.
Screen Indicators:
While the Dual Rates Menu is open, the following should occur
- D/R in the top menu bar is lit up and "Channel:" on the left will be lit up, and the "%" on the right will be light up
- If in channel selection, the 7 segment number will be blinking. This is the active channel
- If adjusting the D/R set point, the 3 character dot display will be blinking the current set point (The setpoint is the max desired percentage of servo throw)
- If adjusting the throttle dual rate, The arrows above the 3 character dot display will indicate which indicates which set point for Forward vs Backwards direction is being adjusted/displayed
Other Noteworthy information:
Dual rates can be adjusted on the fly with a trim switch on the radio. This is particularly useful while on the track and need less sensitive control on straighter sections and more control in the tight windy sections. Or in a crawler and need very fine low speed control in technical sections, but need to be able to have speed for mad dash sections, recovery reverses, or launching off a ledge. See the key mapping menu on how todo this.
